Spayed: Yes

Age: Adult

Size: Medium (26 lbs)

Coat: Medium length

Vaccinated: Yes

Notes: Carrie, a beautiful 26 lb Cocker Spaniel who is still learning to trust the world around her. Right now, Carrie is quite fearful and doesn't approach humans for attention. She doesn't feel comfortable seeking out pets, but if you sit quietly with her in her kennel, she'll accept gentle affection, showing she's beginning to understand the joy that a kind human touch can bring.

Outside with other dogs, Carrie becomes more playful and gains confidence by following their lead. She enjoys observing her canine friends as they explore and will sometimes venture out on her own to do the same. However, she can get nervous in larger spaces, as the outside world can feel overwhelming for her at times. Recently, Carrie has started playing with toys in her kennel and has even shown a bit of affection when someone leaves her, a small but significant sign that she enjoyed their company.

Carrie will need time, patience, and a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe and grow. She is not yet leash-trained, She will also need a more confident dog companion to help guide her and show her how wonderful life can be. With the right support, Carrie's true colors will shine through.

National Mill Dog Rescue rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes retired commercial breeding dogs. Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.

Adopting a dog: If you have not already done so, please submit the adoption application via the link above. Within 72 hours of receipt of your application, an Adoptions Team member will respond to you via EMAIL with instructions on next steps in the application process. Be sure to check your junk or spam email as well. Please note that it is best to not have a particular dog in mind as it could get adopted before you are approved to adopt. Your application is valid for 11 months and we are always rescuing dogs. Once you are approved to adopt, you will be able to set up the meet and greet and you will also bring your dog or dogs with you. If you are looking to adopt from outside of Colorado, you do need to follow the above process, and if approved to adopt, you will need to travel to Colorado to meet and pick up your next family member. We do not allow shipping or transportation.
