Notes: Lulu is a sweet and timid 19 lb Cocker Spaniel who is just beginning to find her bravery. Right now, Lulu is learning to trust and cautiously seeks out pets, though she often trembles as she does. She is really trying her best to be brave, and with some gentle, patient pets, she will start to settle and enjoy the affection.
Lulu can be a bit choosy about her dog friends, so a meet and greet would be helpful to ensure a good match. While she socializes a bit in playgroups, she tends to observe more than actively engage. She loves squeaky toys and has a soft spot for being scratched under her chin. Every day, Lulu grows a little more confident, and it is heartwarming to see her start to open up.
Lulu will need a loving and patient home with a calm, quiet environment to help her continue building her confidence. She is not yet leash-trained, so a fenced yard will be important to keep her safe. Lulu might benefit from having a dog friend in her new home to guide her as she grows into the confident and loving companion she is meant to be.

National Mill Dog Rescue rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes retired commercial breeding dogs. Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
Adopting a dog: If you have not already done so, please submit the adoption application via the link above.
Within 72 hours of receipt of your application, an Adoptions Team member will respond to you via EMAIL with instructions on next steps in the application process. Be sure to check your junk or spam email as well. Please note that it is best to not have a particular dog in mind as it could get adopted before you are approved to adopt. Your application is valid for 11 months and we are always rescuing dogs. Once you are approved to adopt, you will be able to set up the meet and greet and you will also bring your dog or dogs with you. If you are looking to adopt from outside of Colorado, you do need to follow the above process, and if approved to adopt, you will need to travel to Colorado to meet and pick up your next family member. We do not allow shipping or transportation.
